Joining Eastfield

Admission to the main school

Applications for a school place are made directly to the local authority in which you live. Admission to Eastfield is managed by Cambridgeshire Local Authority. In Cambridgeshire places are offered in Reception from the September following your child’s 4th birthday. To apply for a place or for further information about the process, please visit the Cambridgeshire County Council website  or call 0345 045 1370. In the event of over subscription, the process for determining priority for the allocation of places is also administrated by the Local Authority. If you would like to visit please contact the school office for an appointment.

Admission to Eastfield Nursery

Children can start Nursery in the term after their third birthday (January, April or September). We welcome early enquiries and are always happy to show families around. To organise this, and/or to apply for Nursery please email office@eastfield.cambs.sch.uk

Nursery is open from 8:30am to 3:30pm, Monday to Friday (term time only).

Funded Hours

All 3‑ and 4‑year‑olds are entitled to 15 hours of universal funded early education (from the term after they turn 3). Some families may also be eligible for up to 30 hours of funded childcare, subject to government criteria and availability.

At Eastfield Nursery, funded hours are a continuous block between 8:30am and 2:30pm, in line with current Department for Education guidance. This includes the lunchtime period.

Parents may choose for their child to attend:

  • Morning sessions (8:30am-11:30am)
  • Afternoon sessions (12:30-3:30pm)
  • Full days (8:30am–2:30pm)
  • A combination of sessions, subject to availability

The minimum attendance pattern is four sessions per week.

Optional Wraparound Session (2:30pm–3:30pm)

We offer an optional wraparound hour from 2:30pm to 3:30pm.

  • If a child still has funded hours available, this hour will be funded.
  • If a child has used all of their funded entitlement, the 2:30–3:30 session will be chargeable at £5.50 per hour.

Parents are asked to choose a regular collection time when applying to Nursery of 2:30pm or 3:30pm to support staffing and safeguarding.

Additional Sessions

Families wishing to access sessions beyond their funded entitlement may request additional chargeable sessions when registering their child (subject to availability). These are charged at £16.50 per session (8:30–11:30 or 12:30–3:30). We do not offer adhoc bookings for Nursery.

Lunchtime 11:30-12:30pm (available only for children staying all day)

Children staying all day bring a home packed lunch (nut free) for the lunchtime hour. The lunchtime hour is not chargeable.

There is also an option for children to have a school dinner at a cost of £2.50 per meal. Please contact the school office if you would like more information.

Funding Information

Funding is claimed on a non‑stretched basis and is capped at 38 weeks per year. Our school’s URN is 110707 and the school number is 873/2246.

Open Evening and School Tours

Every year, at the beginning of November, we open our doors for an evening to allow existing and prospective families to come and have a look around our school and meet our staff. We also offer guided tours of our school during the school day.

Dates to be confirmed.
